FAQs

What to expect during a BOTOX®, Jeuveau®, Dysport®, or Xeomin® session?

A small needle is used for Botox/Jeuveau/Xeomin/Dysport injections, effectively targeting only the muscles responsible for creating wrinkles. An injection session usually takes just a few minutes; however, I give you a 45 min-1 hour appointment.  No anesthesia is required; however, it is offered in certain areas for optimal comfort.

Your choice of injector is very important because, while Botox/Jeuveau/Xeomin/Dysport injections seem simple, advanced knowledge of facial anatomy and experience injecting is required to ensure the neurotoxin is injected into exactly the right spots to give a lifted and refreshed look and to avoid complications.

How do muscle relaxers like BOTOX®, Jeuveau®, Dysport®, or Xeomin® work?

Muscle relaxers work by blocking neural impulses to the muscles in the injected area, causing the muscles to relax. This is effective in temporarily relaxing the facial muscles that cause wrinkles in the forehead and around the eyes, chin, above the lip, and even in the jowl area. Repeated use of wrinkle relaxers can cause a gradual relaxation of the treated muscles, making the results last longer. The effect of Botox lasts about 3-5 months.

In what areas can BOTOX®, Jeuveau®, Dysport®, or Xeomin® be used?

Botox/Jeuveau/Xeomin/Dysport only works on what is known as “dynamic wrinkles.” These are wrinkles that form over time from making muscle contractions and various expressions.

Botox/Jeuveau/Xeomin/Dysport works on crow’s feet, the 11s between the brows, the upper lip for a lip flip, it is used to narrow and lift your nose, it is used to tighten the neck and lift the jowls, to de-dimple the chin, lift the corners of your mouth and on forehead lines. Some people have had success treating neck banding with Botox/Dysport, but that varies dramatically from patient to patient. Neurotoxins are used to slim the face by injecting the masseter muscle and are used to treat headaches/migraines as well as excessive sweating called hyperhidrosis. Many of the treatments listed may be considered “off-label” use.

How should I prepare for my BOTOX®, Jeuveau®, Dysport®, or Xeomin® session?

Botox/Jeuveau/Xeomin and Dysport were deemed the original “lunchtime procedure.” That’s because a session with Michelle NP is just 30-45 minutes, and then you can return to work or other normal activities. There isn’t any recovery. There also isn’t anything you need to do prior to your session.

How long will my results last?

In most cases, your treatment will be fully kicked in, in 7-10 days.  You will be your most tight at 2 weeks, and then at about 6 weeks, you should slightly relax and have a little more movement.  This is expected.  Then over the next months, you should expect a slow and gradual wear-off.  Sadly, treatments are not expected to just stay the entire time, it is a gradual wear off, and I typically say you will be ready to retreat in 3-5 months or when you are able to scrunch your brows together.

  • A suggestion to make your treatment last longer is to take 50mg of zinc 5 days before and 5 days after your treatment to optimally bind, and for optimal longevity of your treatment.

Are there any side effects to BOTOX®, Jeuveau®, Dysport®, or Xeomin® injections?

The main side effect of the treatment is slight redness and swelling at the injection sites. This usually passes in just a few hours. Some people develop a slight headache for 12 hours or so after their session. Michelle does use a vein-finder machine to minimize any risk of bruising, however, bruising is always a possibility with any injections.

The main possible complication with Botox/Jeuveau/Xeomin or Dysport is that it is injected into an unintended or incorrect muscle, and it leads to problems such as a drooping eyelid, or a heavy-looking brow. This is the reason you should only trust injections given by an expert in facial anatomy such as Michelle NP.

After your injections, it is vital that you stay sitting up, do not wear a hat, do not touch or rub your injection sites, exercise, and lay down for a minimum of 4 hours after your treatment.

Can BOTOX®, Jeuveau®, Dysport®, or Xeomin® be paired with other treatments?

Yes, it is common to do Botox/Jeuveau/Xeomin or Dysport injections alongside or with Sculptra, Kybella, and Fillers such as Juvederm to save you time. Aesthetic appointments can also be paired with or bumped up to any medical appointments such as Bio-identical Hormones, Gut Microbiome, lab, etc.
