Kybella is an injectable deoxycholic Acid which is FDA-approved to improve the appearance of a double chin. Kybella works by destroying fat cells and helps your body absorb the fat. Treatment is fast, requires little to no down time, and destroys fat cells permanently. Kybella destroys the membrane of the fat cells and over about 4-6 weeks your body metabolizes the fat giving you a dramatically improved appearance.

Studies show that if a patient gains weight after Kybella treatments, they do not regain the weight where their fat is removed. The area continues to look good whether you gain or lose weight.

The active ingredients in Kybella or LipoDissolve medications are synthetically identical to our own deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected properly, Kybella™ or LipoDissolve medication dissolves and destroys fat cells, restoring and transforming structure and contours. Once eliminated, those cells can never again store or accumulate fat.

How long will results last?

Results are noticeable within 2-4 weeks after treatment, with full results developing gradually over four to six months. Patients may require 1-4 treatments to achieve their desired results.

Before treatment preparation

Schedule your appointment at least two weeks before special occasions, events, or vacations.
Stop using aspirin, NSAIDs (Aleve, Motrin, etc.), fish/flax oil, or other blood thinning supplements one week before treatment.
Avoid alcohol, caffeine, refined carbohydrates, high sodium, high sugar, and spicy foods for 24-48 hours before treatment to reduce the risk of swelling and irritation.
Please reschedule your appointment if you develop a cold, flu, infection, blemish, or rash on the treatment area.
Your provider will assist you in coordinating Kybella or LipoDissolve treatments with other cosmetic modalities if necessary.

During the Procedure

Your provider will administer multiple injections into the treatment area.
The number of injections will depend on the amount of fat in the treatment area, the size of the treatment area and your desired profile.
The entire procedure typically takes 1 hour but may take longer, depending on the size of the treatment area(s).
Anesthetics are not required, but your provider may apply a local anesthetic to reduce discomfort.

Aftercare & Recovery

It is safe to apply a cold compress to the treatment area in 20-minute intervals to reduce post-treatment irritation.
Use Arnica to reduce discomfort, swelling, and bruising.
If we treat under your chin, try to sleep on your back with the head elevated for 3-5 days after treatment.
Avoid strenuous exercise, direct sun exposure, and heat exposure for 3-5 days following treatment.
Drink plenty of fluids and remain hydrated after treatment.

How many Kybella treatments will I need?

During your initial consultation at Medical Spa annd Wellness by Michelle NP, we will better be able to determine just how many treatments you will need. You may receive a total of six treatments, but on average, patients see visible results in just two to four treatments spaced one month apart.
